Tuina Massage in Zurich
Tuina is a holistic manual therapy method from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Together with Qi Gong, acupuncture, pharmacology, and Chinese dietetics, this effective massage method is one of the five pillars of TCM.
Traditional Chinese Medicine is based on the following basic idea: When our Qi (the life energy), blood, and body fluids, as well as our mind, get out of balance, this can lead to blockages. These blockages, in turn, cause physical pain, mental health problems, and even illness.
Through Tuina massage, the flow of Qi and blood is brought back into harmony. Similar to acupuncture, acupuncture points are stimulated, but with firm pressure of the fingers instead of needles. The therapist works along the energy pathways (meridians) and acupuncture points to release blockages and to bring the energy into its natural flow.

What techniques are used in Tuina?
In Tuina massage, muscles, meridians and organs are massaged by kneading, stroking, rolling and pushing. Additionally, stretching techniques are used for muscles and joints and the joints are mobilized. Furthermore, acupressure takes place along the meridians and their acupuncture points. Tuina therapy involves many different techniques, including chiropractic. However, these are not be carried out in Switzerland without permission. The Daoyin, the conducting and guiding of energy, is always incorporated into the treatment.
Effects
The Tuina massage has a holistic effect. The body is treated, meaning muscles, fascia, tendons; the flow of energy – the Qi; the blood as well as the spirit. It is therefore not only well suited to relieve tension, but also to stimulate blood circulation to bring body and mind in harmony. Additionally, it can help with organ problems. Tuina is often used for diseases, pain, and disorders of the musculoskeletal system. Studies have also shown that it can also help with depression. Therefore, Tuina treatments can be attended as an accompaniment to psychotherapy.

Procedure
A Tuina treatment usually begins with a detailed anamnesis. The therapist is to understand problem and the desired treatment outcome of the client.
Based onthat, the therapist creates a treatment plan according to the principles of TCM. Tuina is often combined with acupuncture, obviously only with the consent of the customer.
At the end of the treatment, the therapist leaves the room, and the client is allowed to rest for a few minutes and feel the after-effects of the massage.
The therapist often gives suitable exercises from Qi Ging or Yoga for the period between treatments. These can make a significant contribution to the success of a treatment.
How many treatments does it take?
The number of sessions depends on cause of the pain. As a rule, several treatments are to be expected forchronical diseases.
Younger patients usually respond more quickly to treatments and can achieve a lot with just a few treatments.
The number of treatments varies between 3 to 10 sessions. If there is no improvement after these, another form of therapy, which could be more suitable for the patient, will be considered.
