Classical Massage Zurich
The classic massage is the most popular treatment method at Origin Massage. The focus here is mainly on relaxation, stress reduction and your general well-being. By using various techniques, for example, muscle tension can be relieved or blood circulation improved. The classic massage is either applied individually or combined with other massage methods. It forms the basis of most treatments and can also be used medically, even if its main focus is on relaxation. However, it should not be confused with medical massage, the aim of which is to treat specific health problems.
If you are not sure which treatment to book, simply choose the classic massage. You can then discuss with your therapist at the beginning of your appointment what your desired goal of the massage is.

It causes an increase in blood circulation in the treated muscle groups, connective tissue and skin. When used correctly, adhesions of the connective tissue, also known as fascia, are dissolved.
In addition, an increased cell metabolism takes place in the tissue due to the improved blood circulation. Further positive effects are a measurable reduction of the pulse frequency and a related lowering of blood pressure, as well as the reduction of stress symptoms. In many cases patients also report less pain and faster wound healing.
Indications
The massage is most frequently used for diseases of the musculoskeletal system. These illnesses can be in the form of tension, chronic muscular pain and tissue contractions. This technique is also used in neurology. Among other things, spasticity and sensitivity are treated by targeted massages.
Different types of classical massage treatments
A distinction is made between a partial and a full treatment. The partial body massage focuses on a specific part of the body. The sub-areas are divided into muscles, legs, arms, abdomen, chest and face. The full body massage, on the other hand, includes all body regions. It is rarely prescribed as medical therapy.

The 5 techniques of classical massage
- Effleurage – Deletions
- Petrissage – Kneading and milling
- Friction – Frictions, mostly circular
- Tapotement – Knocking, Hooking
- Vibration – Vibration transmission, vibration
There are five specialized techniques used during the therapy:
The Effleurage is the first step into every massage session. The word comes from the French and means translated “ touch volatilely “. This handle is used to distribute massage and relaxation. In petrisage (kneading) the skin and muscles are grasped and kneaded with both hands, which relieves tension and improves blood circulation.
With friction, circular movements are performed with the fingertips specifically on the muscle groups to be treated. This technique is extremely powerful and effective in reducing contractions.
With tapotement (tapping), the edges of the hand, the flat hand or even the fingers are used to make percussive movements. This stimulates the blood circulation in the tissue. The vibration (vibration) has a loosening and cramping effect. Here the masseur places his fingertips on the patient’s skin and causes a muscle tremor.

THE HISTORY OF CLASSIC MASSAGE
The classic massage – also known as «Swedish massage» – is characteristic of its stretching, pulling and pressing movements. These affect the skin, connective tissue and muscles. The classical massage in its present form was developed by Pehr Henrik Ling (1776-1839) in Stockholm.
Massage is one of the oldest known healing methods of mankind. Its origins go back to the year 2600 BC. In Europe it was rediscovered and described as a form of therapy only in the course of the 16th century by the physician Paracelsus.
In the present it is no longer performed by doctors but by specially trained masseurs and physiotherapists.
