Dorn-Therapy Zurich
Dorn therapy is a gentle, manual method to release joint and vertebral blockages. If vertebrae and joints are not properly aligned, they can press on our nerves. This pressure can cause a wide variety of pain or organ dysfunctions. Only when the vertebrae are back in the right position, the symptoms disappear.
In this therapy, the skeleton is brought into its correct position from the feet to the legs, hips, sacrum, &spine to the head. Vertebrae and joints are gently moved into place.
As a result, normal movement can take place again and the nervous system is freed from blockages; the vegetative system, organs and meridians can work normally again. This method helps the musculoskeletal system and can release psychological tensions and blockages.
The Dorn Method is often supplemented with the Breuss massage, a massage specially developed for the spine. Thus, one often hears the term Dorn-Breuss therapy. We offer this approach at our Seefeld Zurich location.

How does the technique work?
Joints and vertebrae are brought into the correct position in a gentle way. The therapist works with constant pressure of the hands; jolty movements are avoided. If there is leg length imbalance or pelvic tilt, these are corrected with special handles and by movements of the patient. The structures of the musculoskeletal system are brought back into harmony. As a result, pain can be eliminated, and everyday life can be mastered more freely again.
Effects
Due to a one-sided posture or strain on the musculoskeletal system in everyday life (for example, through the home office), through sports, through a crooked sleeping or standing position or through accidents, back vertebrae can shift and thus press on nerves (e.g., the spinal nerve). This can trigger pain in the back, cause headaches, and negatively affect organs, stomach, glands, ears, and eyes, among others. With the help of Dorn therapy, the vertebrae are gently adjusted. As a result, the pressure on the nerves is released and the energy can flow freely again.
Origins of the Dorn Method
This special vertebral and joint therapy was developed by Dieter Dorn from the Allgäu region in Germany in the 1970s. As the owner of a sawmill and a farm, he experienced a lumbago, after which a neighbouring farmer was able to free him from his pain with special movements. Dorn was enthusiastic and learned these handles himself. He began to treat friends and acquaintances who suffered from ailments and was even able to relieve his wife of chronic headaches. Word of the successes quickly spread and more and more people, including doctors, became aware of him. In the 1980s, surgeon Thomas Hansen encouraged him to give seminars to teach other practitioners this gentle joint therapy. Thus, it spread mainly in German-speaking countries.
Breuss Massage
Our massage therapist Michele at the Zurich SeefeldHöschgasselocation is not only trained in the Dorn Method, but also in the Breuss massage. This type of massage has been specially developed for the spine and is often used in addition to Dorn therapy. It can release physical and mental tension. In addition, it can help well with the regeneration of untreated intervertebral discs by stretching the spine and thus creating more space for the intervertebral discs. Pain can often be relieved quickly and sustainably by this treatment.

Procedure
At Origin Massage Zurich, Dorn therapy is usually used as a method during a treatment. Our therapist. It is best to discuss at the beginning of your treatment how the Dorn Method can be used for your desired massage goal.
A Dorn treatment begins with the therapist checking the legs for length inequality. This can indicate a pelvic tilt, which can manifest itself through physical pain, especially back pain. The therapist compensates for this imbalance with special handles and with the help of the patient’s movement.
Subluxated (slightly dislocated) foot or knee joints can also cause a leg length difference. Therefore, the leg joints are then checked and, if necessary, set up.
After that, the spine is gently scanned from bottom to top for irregularities and the vertebrae are adjusted. If the lowest vertebra is crooked, this can have a negative effect on the entire back up to the neck. In the end, the client is given exercises for at home to further manifest the results of the treatment.
